Born in the Old Schoolhouse

— Excerpt —

I was the first child born in the building. My mother gave birth to me here. We didn’t go to the hospital. The doctor came here and did what had to be done. I was the first child of three that were born here. I was born May of six of 1939. I think it was three or four months after my parents moved in here.

[I lived here] 26 years. When I left here, I was 26 years old. [Living here] was a joy really, if you consider what we had to live with. At the beginning, [the house] was divided into four rooms. Two rooms were bedrooms. The kitchen and living room and dining room was all in one.
