A Bigger, Better Art & Wine Festival

Sykesville 6th Annual Art & Wine Festival

Time to get excited, because Sykesville’s 6th Annual Art & Wine Festival is coming this Sunday, May 1, from 12 to 5pm. If you’ve attended this popular event in recent years, you know it’s a blast. And if you haven’t, now’s your chance to find out why it’s one of the area’s most popular events.

Last year over 2,000 attended, but based on the huge success (6,000 at each) of the Sykesville Chili and Beer Festival last November and the Ice Fest this past February, the town expects to triple attendance, and in preparation they’ve added a second stage for music and will be opening even more of Main Street for art, wine, walking, vendors, and fun.

Pay the $20 unlimited tasting fee, and you’ll receive a collectible Art & Wine Festival wine glass to perform your unlimited tasting. If you won’t be tasting, you can walk the street, enjoy the art, and hear the music for free.

There will be 16 wineries this year, and here’s the line-up.

  • Cygnus Wine Cellars
  • Dragonfly Farms
  • Far Eastern Shore Winery
  • Linganore Wine Cellars
  • Boordy Vineyards
  • Solomons Island Winery
  • Woodhall Wine Cellars
  • Great Shoals Winery
  • Knob Hall Winery
  • Serpent Ridge Vineyard
  • The Winery at Olney
  • Michael’s Winery
  • Elk Run Vineyards
  • Bodegas Gonzalez
  • New Market Plains
  • Legends Winery

While the wine may be the main attraction, there will also be thirty-three local artists, screened and selected by the Main Street Association’s Promotion Committee, including painters, jewelry makers, wood turners and more, displaying their work and offering it for sale.

Other artsy activities include live art demonstrations – including pottery wheel demos, wood burning, silk painting, and much more. A live photo booth with a professional photographer will add to the visual art aspect of the festival.

Needless to say, there will be food, with these 15 vendors:

  • Asia Fusion Elite
  • AW Boys Fries
  • Bowling Green Farm
  • Country Concessions
  • Sara Festivals Inc.
  • Saucier Willy
  • River House Pizza Co
  • N & A Catering Co.
  • Uncle B’s BBQ
  • Calvert Kettle Corn
  • Hami’s Bar-B-Que
  • Bev’s Nuts
  • EW Becks
  • La Cakerie
  • Thai Master Grill

The Music

And finally, there will be music, with an all-acoustic stage and a larger, louder one with a sound system. Artists include two-time Grammy nominee Karter Jaymes from Baltimore, performing his original blend of blues, rock, and soul, along with alt-rock locals, Leftstronger from Sykesville.

From out of town come Michael Fracasso of Austin, Megan Jean & The Klay Family Band from Charleston, and Savannah Valentino an up-and-coming songwriter from Richmond. See the schedule below for more.
